Modular and versatile: the new Demag DMR rope hoist
- Modular design for unique range of rope hoist variants
- Choice of C-design or co-axial design
- Optional: high safety and reliability thanks to smart control system
Terex Material Handling has launched a new hoist unit with its DMR modular rope hoist. With one basic technology, it covers more applications than rope hoists available on the market until now. The Demag DMR modular rope hoist offers a broad range of components that can be configured to create a rope hoist to meet the customer’s specific application needs. Flexibility in configuration of the rope hoist is unparalleled in the market. For the first time, DMR enables rope hoists to be implemented in the form of a compact C-design or co-axial design on the basis of a single product.
This feature underlines the modular rope hoist’s suitability both for conventional cranes and crabs as well as for stationary applications in the mechanical and plant engineering sectors where lifting, towing, travel, holding or positioning tasks are in demand.
“The Demag DMR modular rope hoist also makes it easier to select the required hoist unit”, explains Dr. Thomas Bönker, Senior Director of the Components Business Line at Terex Material Handling. “Until now, you had to compare various products to find the right rope hoist for the given requirements. From today, we offer a solution for all your needs with one basic technology. This means that you have maximum freedom in the choice of design, control system, drive method and control concept.” Thanks to its modular design, DMR also adds size 16 to the Demag product range for load capacities up to 20 tons.
Many choices
DMR modular rope hoists will be available as foot-mounted hoists, low-headroom and standard-headroom travelling hoists and double-rail crabs to meet specific customer needs. The five sizes are rated for load capacities up to 50 tons. For the electric equipment, customers can choose between the smart Demag SafeControl system, conventional contactor controls or their own control system. The smart SafeControl system provides for a high level of operating safety and reliability and fulfils requirements for efficient production processes. SafeControl enables many technical features – from by-pass control to tandem operation and load-dependent speeds – to be implemented with ease.
The hoist and cross-travel drives have two-stage or variable speeds, as required. DMR offers a flexible choice of accessories. For example, cross-travel limit switches and current collectors can be easily and precisely fitted to the housing in various positions – they can also be adapted when the hoist unit or crab is installed. For high traction, the DMR low-headroom travelling hoist is prepared as standard for a two-wheel drive (DualDrive), or optionally also for a second cross-travel motor (DualDrive Plus), if necessary for the given application. The rope hoist satisfies the usual FEM 2m market standard as a minimum requirement and is rated for IP55 protection. The hoist units can be operated either via radio with the new D3 generation radio control system or with wire-connected controls. Individual parameters – from the basic design to the choice of control system – can be selected with a menu-driven online configuration tool. The result is a DMR modular rope hoist that is tailored to meet specific application requirements.
Production will start in October 2015. From the fourth quarter of 2015, customers can already be supplied with foot-mounted hoists and low-headroom travelling hoists in C design in sizes 3, 5, 10 and 16 with load capacities of up to 16 t. In 2016, this will be followed by the DMR in co-axial design, the remaining sizes and double-rail crabs and standard-headroom travelling hoists. Thanks to its broad range of possible applications, the modular rope hoist will replace the current DR-Pro and DR-Com ranges as well as the DR-Bas models that are available in threshold markets and the USA.
